I can faintly remember my childhood, visiting Rajesh Ice
Cream (not a parlor those days but a shop) just around the corner and lapping
up a mix kulfi plate. Back in the day, kulfi sticks and standard faloodas were
a means to beat the heat or a reward for doing well in academics. Indulging in
desserts meant sugar syrup dripping rasgullas or homemade Kheer. The
evolution of the food landscape has changed it all. Innovative dessert cafes
are popping up ever so quickly; we now reach destinations using these as
landmarks. Amid all this restructuring, only a few, offer an end to end array
of tooth decayers.
A formal invite by the good fellows at Grabstr to review a
new menu at Loaded – the dessert bistro, instantly bartered my frowning emoticon face for a
grinning one. An opportunity to visit a dessert house at the end of a grueling
weekday was more reminiscent of a silver lining in the clouds.

Dessert Bistro? A place dedicated entirely for desserts? The name itself is an open display of confidence of their boastful menu.Cramped in between the tiny stores on Ambedkar Road near Bombay Barbeque- Khar. Loaded can be easy to miss; would be a sin though. Not much to document on the ambience, the only color that radiated was from the gleaming yellow walls and blue furniture. A near 6 table seater, this David (& Goliath) sure packs a punch with its lovely presentations. A no wi-fi policy encourages an enjoyable chat over the sweet delights leaving out the social media distractions.

Managed by Chef Tripti Singh who personally makes her
signature desserts to ensure quality and taste are not compromised, close
attention is paid to the tiniest of details. A young and innovative mind,
“loaded” with creative ideas, Tripti seems to be on a one person mission to revolutionize
the dessert industry.

Our first order was their signature & most famous Blueberry
lush sandwich
:
Dessert sandwiches are uncommon but fortunately, Loaded seem
to have these in their ranks.
Blueberry lush, cream cheese, chocolate brownies and sprinkled
with grated white chocolate was enough to give me a sugar rush, send my
excitement levels spiraling through the roof. Overly sweet, this one did not
score much on my rating system, but the praiseful expressions from the others
suggested otherwise.
The wicked soul is not a fan of blueberry and as such rates
this one average.

Red Velvet Crepes
Delicate crimson crepes enveloping white Chocolate Ganache & Brownies, sprinkled
with chocolate shavings and a dollop of Vanilla Ice cream with Chocolate sauce
send small electrical charges racing through the brain. The delicate melt-in-the-mouth Crepes, chocolatey brownies and smooth ice cream taste divine in perfect harmony. A complete showstopper, the wicked soul is still having repercussions from this queen of hearts.
Strawberry & white chocolate cheesecake Crepe: Did I hear
Cheesecake & Crepe together? Yes, thin, soft crepes packed with white
chocolate cheesecake and topped with strawberry compote and grated white
chocolate. The beautiful red & white combo was the second best thing we
tried and on this basis purely, I can say that the Chef has got the crepe
variations spot on.
Strawberry Crème: Lurking below froth white chocolate crème,
is a disaster just waiting to surface. One sip of this supposedly warm cup of
happiness almost instantly transposes you back to strawberry slush found most
commonly at hill stations. A wakeup call, the cup of happiness soon turned
gloomy. Back to the drawing board with this one, dark chocolate or red velvet
could be a pleasant replacement.

As they say, save the best for last, we were stunned when we
were presented with the Strawberry & Cream Gaffle.
Gaping waffles filled with whipped cream and luscious
strawberry, served with a side of dark chocolate ganache!
Now that’s what “Loaded” means woahhh! An even balance in the sides
of good and dark, the crunchy waffles hold within itself a delectable cream.
Other than a regular waffle, this one was the grand-daddy of waffles.
This sugar rush experience was definitely a mood-lifter to
drive away the midweek blues. I would revisit soon to indulge in more crepes
and waffles. Loaded proudly ranks itself among the few handful of sweet
tooth rulers.
#LipsmackingMeter – 4/5
Note: Though it was an invite & desserts were on the
house, my review is unbiased & based purely on my experience.
Until then,
