The world’s most dreaded day of the week,
Monday, only about to be made better at the end of the evening by a visit to
United café. What would otherwise have been a tiring journey from Andheri to
Ghatkopar was quick and comfortable thanks to the Metro.

Located on the ground floor of R city mall, Ghatkopar,
United is the second coming of the popular Manchester United Sports bar &
café.

As you enter you will be hit by the vibrant
playlist from golden classics to Shakira to Bollywood item songs, their jukebox
spans the decades. The floor space is amazingly so large that you can literally
wander around and even manage to lose your way. The witty beer quotes, a pool
table & a dance floor to shake your bon bon, what more can you ask of a
café.

We were invited for their new menu launch
where my fellow blogger friends tried their Long Island Iced Tea and fancy
cocktails while I slipped away on a simple yet refreshing couple of Milkshakes/Mocktails.

Starting off with Peach Passion, the sweet
citrus flavour was the perfect beginner to drive away the Monday Blues.
Next up was Chocolate Oreo Milkshake: Creamy shake with Oreo’s and dark chocolate served in a beautiful tall glass seemed the perfect
way to start a delicious meal. Not living up to its name,
it lacked sufficient Oreos and chocolate.
Our growling stomachs could not wait any
longer and our order was quickly scribbled down.

Black Pepper Chicken: Aromatic succulent chicken generously rubbed in black pepper and grilled to
perfection. It was finger licking good and we ended up ordering seconds and thirds…. Definitely best starter vote goes to this goodness.

Teriyaki Chicken: Japanese styled skewers of
chicken doused in teriyaki sauce lit up our table. The dish scored on
presentation but the hard to chew chicken chunks dropped it to last in the
league table.

Schezwan Fish: Soft & flaky red dices of
fish tossed in schewzan sauce slid over to our table amid the flavorful whiffs partnered with sides of cabbage onions salad. Schezwan flavored chicken is so
done and dusted, but schezwan fish …. “speechless”. Gobbled down within
minutes, this one certainly climbed up the preference table.

Eager to have seconds, our server suggested we
try Achari fish instead. Again flavorful aroma surrounded the dish and
again everyone began salivating. Only this time, it turned out to be a bummer. The
sour achar flavor dominated the dish dropping it down the points table. It is
not always that a suggestion brings a smile.

Is it possible that one has been to a sports
bar and not ordered a pizza?? Totally unheard of we didn’t want to break a
custom. The pizza was preceded by a second round of drinks:

Khatta Meetha: Watermelon, tamarind juice and lime fused together…. Oh so yummmm laalach aaya laplap. The tamarind juice worked its zesty magic on the refreshing watermelon juice.
Smoking Hot Chicken Pizza was quickly hurried
from the kitchen and onto our table. Thin crust topped with chunky bits of
chicken, onions, olives, cheese and an unusual serving of salad veggies in the
middle. The veggie centre awakened our innovative minds. The thin crust of the
pizza was used to create an altogether new pizza, off the menu.
Next up was Kheema Pav, served in a small pan
topped with half fry sunny side up, 2 masala rubbed butter pavs and a side of kachumber
(onion, tomatoes, coriander). Yeh toh na-insaafi hai… log teen aur pav do. Not
one to waste, I quickly loaded the kheema onto the thin crust from the pizza.
Flavoured, mouth melting, spicy mince paired with crunchy pizza crust was a
match made in United J  We would travel back to Ghatkopar again just
to feast on this non greasy, mouth-melting minced delicacy.
The kheema changed our perception that United
was not only good with the drinks they served but instead checked the necessary
boxes in the tasty food section too.

With expectations tearing through the roof,
Hyderabadi Biryani on the menu could not escape our roving sights. Presented in
a ceramic serving dish, the air was filled with such irresistible aroma as soon
as the lid was lifted. Diced juicy pieces of mutton embedded in flavored
saffron rice and caramelized onions and served with a side of boondi raita.
Every morsel of the juicy bits of mutton rolled into the rice was a step closer
to heaven; certainly no exaggeration here. It is hard to believe that a bar can
serve food as delightful and delicious as this.

As we were reaching the end of our meal, the
laid back DJ sprung to life with a string of hip shaking tracks.

The end of the main course suggested it was
time for “Desserts”. Another chance with suggestions, we called for Chocolate
Volcano & Gajar Halwa Cheesecake.

Chocolate Volcano: A chocolate mound was served with a dollop of
vanilla ice cream. Chocolate lava oozed from within as the knife cut through
the smooth melting chocolate. The soft outer layer of the chocolate melted
along with the smooth chocolate lava. Just so chocolaty, the Chocolate Volcano
sure delivers a chocogasm with a high count of calories. No guilty feelings
there
Gajar Halwa with Cheesecake scored maximum on
presentation. Mascarpone cheesecake infused with gajar halwa and topped with
carrot & chocolate shavings was one of the best looking dishes around. The picture
speaks a thousand words; but in this case it deceives. The cheesecake was more
than creamy and the bland carrots didn’t help the cause. Not to appear too
harsh, the overall dish could earn some appreciation with a little rework.
The overall experience of travelling to a
crowded Ghatkopar area on a weekday would seem unforgiving but with an amazing
experience as this, a second visit would always be on the books.
