Amet Haveli: Heritage Hotel in Udaipur!
Udaipur has many magnificent Havelis that once belonged to the royal families of Mewar. It is our good fortune that we are able to stay in many of these historic structures which are now restored back to their best and put forward as Heritage Hotels. Lake Pichola is where you will find countless luxury and lakeside hotels but staying in a heritage hotel and soaking up its history and character of a bygone era is an unmatchable experience. Amet Haveli lives up to its expectations of luxury and heritage.
Located on the banks of Lake Pichola, at Ambrai Ghat is Hotel Amet Haveli. Built during the rule of Maharana Jagat Singh II, it is a 350-year-old heritage haveli on the lakeshore, boasting envious lake view rooms and royal experiences. As we set foot in the Haveli, it felt as if I was walking in the yesteryears. The Haveli oozes a historic charm of its own. The Reception lobby is adorned with family portraits, antiques and colored glass windows.
The owners still live within the property, in a private wing and if you are lucky, you may even meet the owner who will fill you in on his fascinating family history.
Rooms at Amet Haveli Heritage Hotel:
After a short walk through the arched alleyway we reached our Suite. The suite was spacious with a queen-size bed opposite tall windows which opened up to a view of the lake and the City Palace. The rooms here are so low that you can just lean out the window and touch the water. Pro tip: opt for Suite #11 as it has a beautiful view during the day which is even more beautiful at night.
The room had traditional furniture complementing the contemporary amenities. Each corner of the room screams of how the actual haveli would have been in a bygone era. The plush white walls, the iron doorknobs, the antique knick-knacks, statues, the beautiful arched pillars, cushioned window seats and the small coloured windows effortlessly mould the vintage with the modern. The simplicity of the room spoke of stories this enormous Haveli had lived.
We believe that we had the best view and it was hard for us to leave the room.
Amet Haveli has 20 rooms divided into Standard, Deluxe and Suite categories. The windows of the Deluxe rooms and Suites face the lake.
Facilities at Amet Haveli Heritage Hotel:
Café Ambrai:
The highlight of Amet Haveli is Café Ambrai, one of the most beautiful cafes in Udaipur. The café is situated close to the lake with great views, something reminiscent of a painter’s dream. You could visit during any time of the day and still find the view stunning. I’d recommend to visit this place either for breakfast where you can see the rising sun or for an idyllic dinner with fairy lights and lamps illuminating the place.
The café serves a variety of cuisines and caters to inhouse as well as outside guests.
Badi Mahal:
The Haveli offers a romantic private dinner under the stars with a magnificent view of the City Palace. The dining area is secluded, in the private garden of the owner. It is decorated with flowers and lights, adding a romantic touch to a beautiful night under the stars. The overall package comes at a premium.
Pool at Amet Haveli Heritage Hotel:
The gorgeous pool is worth a mention. It resonates with a Moroccan style pool I had seen on my Insta feed a months ago. The turquoise water with a backdrop of pearly white arches is a relaxing sight. Spent hours at the pool in the morning; isn’t that we ought to do when on a holiday?
Ayurvedic Spa at Amet Haveli Heritage Hotel:
Ayurvedic Massage in Rajasthan? Yes, pretty much possible. There are plenty of massage centers around the nooks and corners of Udaipur, but the one at Amet had a charm of its own. We opted for an hour and a half long couple Ayurvedic full body massage. The masseuse, a middle-aged Keralite lady, was professional, friendly and a bit chatty as well 😉 We were left rejuvenated after the session and that pretty much sums up that our trip to Udaipur was nothing but just a relaxing trip together.
Overall experience: Amet Haveli – Heritage Hotel in Udaipur is an ode to a beautiful and eclectic experience. It has a blend of conventional and contemporary, then and now and a beauty that will stay forever.
Its location is perfect if you want to stay closer to all the main tourist attractions yet away from the rumble of the city. We preferred walking down to all the nearby attractions -Bagore ki Haveli, City Palace and Gangaur Ghat on Lake Pichola. The foot over bridge is the easiest and most convenient way to cross over the lake and explore the bylanes of Udaipur from Amet Haveli.
We loved our stay here and Cy demands that we stay here again on our next trip to Udaipur 😊 Can’t wait to be back!
Until then,
