If you are wondering what to wear in Rajasthan, then I hope this article helps to solve your dilemma. I have visited Rajasthan quite a few times over the past two years already exploring Bikaner, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer & Udaipur.
Rajasthan is my favourite state in India and with every visit I have fallen more in love with it. Every street and corner is bursting with colors and charming vibes. How can anyone not get tempted to dress pretty and twirl like a princess? My simplest fashion mantra when travelling is “comfort with style”. If something is not comfortable, its not in my suitcase.
When I was packing my Travel Outfits for Rajasthan, I knew I had to keep my outfits comfy yet stylish; an attire that will help me blend in yet stand out. The Outfits I mention below are easy to find, very convenient and Instagrammable. So if you are looking to click some great pictures while in Rajasthan, scroll on.😊

Half Saree: This definitely takes top spot on the list! We all agree that Saree is the most beautiful Indian Attire. I have seen many International tourists over the years wearing Sarees while visiting popular Indian monuments, simply excited to create a memory of a lifetime in a Photo. But with a great Saree comes even greater responsibility to manage it. If you are not confident to flaunt it even with dozens of pins at every pleat, the best alternative is the Half Saree. With great ease, I wandered around the City Palace, Jaipur in the half saree and slayed the look while getting tons of praise from onlookers. It’s an absolute hack and a lot easier to carry. Mine was a Pant styled look with Ready Pleated Dupatta that I paired with a Golden Blouse. You can buy a similar one from here:
Anarkali Kurtas: As if those Anarkalis were made to be just worn and danced around in the beautiful forts of Rajasthan. Pick any color and length, you are sure to love how beautiful and comfortable these are. From Plain Solids to Printed, Bandhni and Embroidered, just let your heart pick them. I got mine from a local market in Mumbai and loved how beautifully it stood out against the bold blue walls of Jodhpur just as it did against the Sunkissed Fort in Jaisalmer.

Long Skirts & Ghagras: You will spot many Rajasthani women donning Long Ghagras draped with a dupatta around the blouse, their traditional attire. The Ghagra makes for a comfortable travel outfit in Rajasthan. They are not only traditional but very much in style. Pair a cotton printed ghagra with a plain top, spice it up with funky jewellery or just throw in a colourful scarf. On almost every trip, I have bought Ghagra on sale from here! It is easy on the pocket and is handy on all my trips to this kingly state.
Maxi Dresses: These are a no brainer. You will find travellers flaunting maxi dresses in every part of the world. Maxi dresses are so versatile that they are apt for almost every destination and Rajasthan is not left behind. They are my preferred option too as they are comfy and flowy and perfect for a conservative and hot country like India. The lighter fabric dresses will keep you cool while covering you up. Avoid Floor Length dresses as there will be quite some walking around in these cities. You can tuck in the extra dress fabric under a belt to shorten the length of the dress or simply tie a knot on the side which will help you walk around comfortably.
Same Black Maxi Dress worn as a skirt with a sweater on a winter day in Bikaner 😊 Buy this here
A line Kurtas: A line Kurtas are a good substitute for Anarkalis on a hot summer day in Rajasthan. They are less flowy and are available in cotton and linen. Easy to walk around in, adds color and some even comes with Pockets 😛 Mine was Tailor made and I simply had to have pockets made in them 😊 You can find something similar here.
Jumpsuits: I don’t know if it’s just me, but many people overlook the power of a Jumpsuit! I find them cute and versatile! You can layer it with a shirt, light jacket or even a scarf and it goes with every mood! They are breezy, fashionable and more importantly they are easy to walk around in. I really loved Jumpsuits especially the ethnic ones. I have a few in Block colors and Prints as well. The Orange color really stands out and looked cheerful in the golden streets of Jaisalmer.
Palazzo / Harem Pants: If you are someone who doesn’t like wearing dresses, pick flowy harem or Palazzo pants. Its more comfortable and lighter and comes in many funky colors. Pair it with a crop top or a plain white shirt and you are good to go. Its breathable and makes it easy to run around in the bylanes of the colourful cities of Rajasthan. I paired a Black Palazzo with a Plain White Shirt in Udaipur.
White Shirt with Churidar/ Jeggings: The White shirt is a silent staple in everybody’s wardrobe. Pair it with any colored churidar or leggings. You can also jazz it up with a long neckpiece, a colourful scarf or even a colored jacket and you are ready to rock this outfit. This is what I wore in Jodhpur back in 2018. If you don’t have a churidar, skinny jeans would work just as well.
Accessories to amp your Travel Outfits to wear in Rajasthan:
Bandhni Dupatta: If you don’t own one, you need to get one from the local market in any of these cities of Rajasthan. It’s also a perfect souvenier to take back with you. Available in vibrant colors, it can uplift any dull outfit effortlessly. I paired my Bandhni Dupatta with a simple black Kurta to break the monochrome.
Colorful Scarf: Scarves are a travellers’ best friend. What I am saying is: “Always carry a scarf with you”. You can cover up your shoulders or hair when visiting religious sites, add a pop of color to your outfit, even to tie your hair in a fashionable way. They are light weight, easy to carry, comes in handy and are multifunctional.
Boho Jewelleries: Don’t shy away from accessorizing yourself when in Rajasthan. Statement pieces are a thing here. Pack your statement pieces and if you don’t own one, fret not. Again, you can buy for cheap when in one of these cities. Haggling is the way to go here while shopping. I got some of the best jewellery pieces from Jaisalmer and Udaipur at bargain prices.
Hats/ Turbans: While straw hats are doing the rounds on every Traveller’s Instagram feed, they do well in a cultural city like Jaipur too. Don your hat on a dress and pose away. Not only does it safeguard you from the scorching sun but also makes for a cute photo prop. When in Rajasthan don’t forget to buy these traditional turbans; they look cute and traditional at the same time😊
Sunglasses: Sunglasses have become a part of me. Any outfit or time of the day, sunglasses add a cool quotient. Whether its early morning sunshine, a sunny day or just plain cloudy, put on a pair of shades throughout the day. I even paired my glasses with the Half Saree I wore in Jaipur, classy much?
Important Tips while packing your outfits to wear in Rajasthan:

- Go all out with colors you love. Rajasthan is so beautiful that no matter what you wear, you will be tempted to flaunt on Instagram.
