Hello February! the month of love.
While the Internet is constantly teeing up ideas on what to gift your loved ones, have you thought about visiting a romantic destination to celebrate Valentines with your significant other? In last couple of years of travelling, I have been to some of the most romantic places in India. Our country has some splendid destinations for the hopeless romantics – gorgeous beaches, wild forests, history and much more. I have scored the list of some of the best romantic places to visit.
Udaipur: Udaipur, the Venice of East, is one of the most romantic cities in India.
Udaipur is famed for its splendid lakes, magnificent hotels and quaint white washed houses. Some of the amazing things to do in Udaipur include brunching at lakeside restaurants, boating at Lake Pichola to soak in the beautiful sunset, a visit to the City Palace, the lights show at Bagore ki Haveli and watching the city illuminate from the steps of Gangaur Ghat. You can skip the tourist trap and rent a bike around Doodh Talai Lake and hike to Badi Lake for some spectacular views.
Jaisalmer: Jaisalmer has steadily become one of the most travelled places in recent times. This Golden city has an inevitable charm. The imperial architecture, centuries of history, luxury hotels, vast stretches of sand, picturesque sunsets and limitless adventure experiences, this city has it all. Here are some of the reasons why Jaisalmer can be the perfect honeymoon destination.
Agra: The Taj Mahal, undoubtedly, is the ultimate symbol of love the world over. This epitome of love is known to be the most romantic monument in the world. Listening to the history of this majestic wonder of the world will let the cupids loose. You could get clicked in front of the Taj or, to make it even more memorable, get down on one knee & propose to your other half whilst in the Eden of love. Witness an awe-inspiring view from Mehtab Bagh, where with every passing moment of the setting sun, Taj changes its hues, its unutterably beautiful!
Kerala: Kerala, dubbed “God’s own country”, is another romantic hotspot in the south. It is popular for its lush green beauty & infamous backwaters, and there is nothing more romantic than drifting in a houseboat and enjoying the serene beauty of Alleppy. You could also hike to the cliffs and soak in the incredible views of Munnar.
Goa: Goa is famous for its nightlife & beaches. But it also boasts of some of the best sunset views along its coasts. Take a romantic walk on the serene beaches and just soak in those amazing views while waiting for the party at the shacks to begin. Be sure to visit the charming town, Fontainhas, for its colourful maze like colonial quarters & Portuguese influence.
Vattakanal: Vattakanal remains one of the most underrated places on the list of romantic places. More often than not, it comes across as suitable for solo travellers and hippies. But there is nothing more romantic than spending time with your loved one in the midst of nature. Cycle around or enjoy boating at Kodai lake or simply drive to Pine forests, nature’s hidden jewel, just 30 mins from Vattakanal. Where to stay and things to do in Vattakanal, read more here.
Pondicherry: Not a typical romantic spot, but this quaint and charming town has its own charisma. As a couple, you could walk down the colourful streets of the French colony admiring the colonial influence in the buildings, treat yourselves to some delicious food over dim lights and French styled restaurants, witness a gorgeous sunset at Rock beach, climb to the top of the world at the LightHouse or catch a glimpse of the radiating Matrimandir at Auroville.
